Drewry WCI has marginally decreased to $3,529 per 40-FEU as of December 12, reflecting a slight dip from the previous week's figure of $3,533. Freight rates have shown varied changes—increases on routes from New York to Rotterdam and Shanghai to Rotterdam and decreases on the Shanghai to Los Angeles route. Stability in rates is expected in the upcoming week.Freight rates from New York to Rotterdam increased by 3 per cent, or $23, to $830 per FEU, and those from Shanghai to Rotterdam increased by 2 per cent, or $80, to $4,855 per FEU. Likewise, rates from Rotterdam to Shanghai, Shanghai to Genoa, Los Angeles to Shanghai, and Shanghai to New York inched up by 1 per cent to $520, $5,526, $726, and $5,199 per FEU, respectively.
On the other hand, rates from Shanghai to Los Angeles decreased by 4 per cent, or $137, to $3,582 per FEU, and those from Rotterdam to New York shrank by 1 per cent, or $27, to $2,622 per FEU. Drewry expects spot rates to remain stable next week. The index had noted a steep rise in the previous week following the announcement of an impending ILA port strike in January 2025.
